BA Combined Honours - Newcastle University

I have received four out of five of my offers for university but seem to have been waiting a while for an offer from the Combined Honours choice. Is this normal? I have received an offer for BA History at Newcastle University already.

When I applied to university little over a year ago, I applied to the exact same course at Newcastle. The only thing I'll say to you when waiting for your UCAS results (and I know it's easier said than done) is not to worry. You just have to wait. Have you had any other successful offers yet? Thinking about those might make you feel a bit calmer.

When I applied to uni, I didn't hear from Edinburgh until January. I guess all universities and the departments within that institution (you said you've already got an offer for History at Newcastle) work in different ways when it comes to the selection process: some answers in a month, others in a few months. I think I got an offer from Newcastle in December actually - and that might have changed this year (I guess it depends on the number of people applying too).

So Good Luck on getting in and Don't Worry too much about it.

Heya, just to let you know you're not alone! I've received four out five offers so far and I'm still waiting to hear from Newcastle for the combined honours course as well. It was a relief to read this!

Same here, although sent my Ucas on the 1st November and received all my offers within 2 weeks beside Newcastle for combined honours. I'm not sure yet but I'm considering Newcastle as my firm or insurance as I really like the course but need to look at the university before I choose my firm. If you have visited Newcastle was it nice? Like the accomodation, campus etc

Well I have lived in Gateshead all my life (just across the river from Newcastle) and the city is absolutely amazing and has a great atmosphere! Newcastle University is amazing I've been there a lot as I go to public lecture etc and also went to an open day! The accommodation is very very nice for the money and isn't very expensive (I can't remember exactly prices) but you will love Newcastle! Don't be put off by silly television shows or the accent it's not at all like that! If you like socialising and nights out (although I don't) again it has hundred of places to go

Great! Thank you  it's great to hear that it's an all rounder in terms of people that want to go out often in comparison to thoses that don't. As I'm from London, I still want the buzz but also I enjoy the quietness as well is there countryside places nearby that you can just get the train?

There is so many countryside places! Especially in Durham which is only about 30/ 45 minutes away... I think you would enjoy it! Everything is in walking distance in central Newcastle! Places like the Quayside, Theatres, Cinemas, Nightclubs, Bars etc! Then the metro links you to beaches and other cities! Buses run regularly as well into Durham and Gateshead but you can walk to Gateshead within 10 minutes

Great! Thank you so much for your help  Newcastle is really appealing especially since researching the course and university online, so hopefully i'll get an offer soon so that I can visit the uni on applicant day!

No Problem! If you want to know anything else about the area just ask!
How are you finding the split of subjects in Combined Honours? I want to take Classics with History, but I know that it's only in the 2nd year that I can make History my minor, whereas in Liverpool I can take it as my minor from the start.
Also, how useful is the special Combined Honours modules? Thanks!

I would accept the offer to study History. I studied Combined Honours because I took the History and English GCSE's and wanted to do both at Uni. I didn't like that I had to take half History modules and half English because my mates would all get to see each other in the modules. I felt I missed out and was behind in both my subjects and my module leaders in second year expected me to know things that I hadn't learned because I didn't choose their modules. Module clashes were never sorted. The School of History staff was fast to answer emails but the Combined school wasn't. The marking criteria was clear for History but I took a Combined module and it was confusing and a waste of time.
