History Revision Essay Help

So...we have a test tomorow and I did a mock essay on Henry Viii on why he closed down the monstries :

The monasteries were rich and powerful. They had wealth, land and power exactly what Henry needed.

Firstly, Henry needed money for a number of reasons. During this time Henry was Bankrupt and in debt and to repay what he owned he had to get money. The monasteries had many relics and precious models that could be melted down or just sold for great sums of money. Not only this but the monastery had land which Henry could sell to the Nobel Dukes and Lords. By selling land he would gain money and the favour of the Dukes.

Secondly, Henry needed the power of religion as religion played a vital part in the Tudor Times. If he closed down all the monasteries there would little Catholic support. This would make his role as Head of the English Church more supported and increase his likelihood of getting a divorce. Not only would this more wealthy but he have total Control over every religious aspect of Tudor Life.
By having the favour of Nobility and the control of Religion Henry would be a very feared and well respected king in England. He would be strong, influential and wealthy.
