Exeter-- CORNWALL/PENRYN/TREMOUGH/FALMOUTH

So I have a place to study English at the Exeter Cornwall campus for 2015 (I'm gap year-ing). I'm starting to worry about the experience I'll have there. Just wondering if anyone knows much about the people, the nightlife, the atmosphere etc. I'm worried that I'll go and it'll be very boring! Even if there are lots of house parties/gatherings I'll be happy, but if there's not much apart from the occasional event in the Stannary…
ALSO… does anyone know anything about the accommodation choices- I've heard that you can choose a quiet flat, which I definitely won't be doing ……but what are the other options?
Thanks! x
I don't know a great deal, but I have a friend who goes there. He says it's quite quiet compared to other unis, but not totally dull as there are a few places to go out, and people find ways to have a good time without a massive range of clubs.

I'm also a gap year student with an offer for Exeter Cornwall for English, though I haven't accepted yet. I think it's quieter - not so much night life club wise, but there are plenty of nice pubs and they regularly hold events at the Stannary or on the beach, or so I was told by students I met on open day. There are still plenty of things to do, but it's just not as hectic as a city - it depends what you're looking for really. They do have student house parties regularly from what I've heard and seen on FB (I know several people who go there and believe me, they do party) and everyone I met on open day seemed very sociable and chatty, so I don't think it'd be too quiet, maybe just quieter than in a city.

Accommodation wise, it's self catered and you either live at Glasney Student Village which is on campus, or at The Sidings, which are a short walk away and literally right next to the Penryn train station, so transport links are very good. It's a bit less noisy at The Sidings apparently, but the students living there do still socialise and go up to the main campus regularly for events. The accommodation is quite pricey but seemed very safe and modern, both in Glasney and The Sidings.

I'm a fairly sociable person, so if I do choose to go there then there'll be at least one person up for nights out!

Thank you for this!! I needed to hear that! I am very laid back, and will definitely be into surfing/BBQs on the beach most of the time, as long as the option to go to a club/have a night out is there. Tbh I think it's the people that will make it amazing, just hope I'm in a flat with people who like to have a laugh

Everyone down here is so lovely. People worry about it being a small campus, but personally I love it because it is so easy to bump into people you know, or people you met at the freshers events.

Falmouth doesn't have any decent clubs, but has lots of pubs and bars which you can have a great time in! Of course there is the infamous club I which probably hasn't changed for 100 years, but is great fun at the end of the night.
Everyone seems to go out on Thursdays which are student nights. The Stannary events are very regular, at the moment they are every Saturday which is great fun. They are usually excellent! Although buy your tickets online for them as soon as you can because it does sell out quickly.

Glasney Village has self catered en suite rooms all with double beds. The halls are lovely, especially glasney view which is more modern than glasney parc. The maintenance team are pretty good at fixing anything. I believe the quiet flats are situated on the edge of the student village, where as I am right in the centre - which is very handy as I don't have to walk as far in the rain! It can be noisy outside on Thursdays and weekends until the late hours which is expected, but there are usually lots of flat parties!

I hope that helps
