The Student Room Group

Should university reforms be introduced?

Some possible reforms to make things better:-

1) Students wear compulsory uniforms to classes;
2) Ban alcohol on campus
3) Treat bullying as something that is an expulsion punishment
4) All students must offer Further Maths at A level to study at Oxbridge, regardless of subject;
5) Cut the number of universities to about 80 through mergers;
6) Top level campus security 24/7

I have a feeling that you're a troll.. that last point sorta gave it away.

And no alcohol? Have you ever met a student?

No alcohol on campus. That doesn't stop students drinking elsewhere in town!

Aah okay, I misread that bit, but still. How would this magically make university better?

In halls I had a drunk student throw a pizza box off my head in the JCR. Another drunk student skipped the que to play on the pool table, even though he knew his turn wasn't for a while.

Uniform is worn at school and in some universities and professional colleges already.

Why not a tie and blazer, in prep for the world of work?

Depends what 'problem' you're trying to fix.

Your 'solutions' fix nothing. I mean, uniforms? What problem is that trying to solve?

Same as in schools, everyone gets treated more equally. There can be dress down fridays :biggrin:.

Those don't remotely add up, you know that, right?
That's not why they have uniforms at school.

It is one of the reasons though.

How many people still wear a tie and blazer to work?

In a lot of professions. It isn't like you have to wear them in a night club (irony is, sometimes students do)?

Maybe said dress code could be restricted to those studying degrees that will (hopefully) enable the students to enter a profession that requires them to wear a tie and blazer.

Bad idea, that would create an illusion of elitism.

Probably still a better solution that forcing all students to wear a blazer and tie to class.
