Should I go?

Circumstances have changed.

If you don't have feelings for him in that way then don't go out with him as a date. You should tell him straight rather than stringing him along because it will be a lot worse in the future and could ruin your friendship whereas if you tell him now he'll get over it.
Test the waters. One date won't hurt.

If you still don't feel anything like that after the first date then just tell him he's great and all, but nah mate.
I think you should give it a go

What these guys said. From what i can see it seems like he's acted too slow and so you didn't really consider him before.

Try imagining if someone else - who you haven't relegated to "just friends" yet but who looks and acts the same way - asked you out? Would you go for it? If yes, then same answer here. Just don't restrict you're view of him to a friend when you go, or you're just stringing him along.

Sounds worth a try. Can you imagine yourself having his babies?

go, you never know, he is your friend, the least you can do is support him.
