Does having a full time job in computing count towards a computer science application

My son is currently in computing/repair sales/customer service/building computers/remote support. Does that count towards a computer science application? He currently has BTEC Extended Diploma in IT Level 3 MMM, he has 10 GCSEs but only got D in English, B in Maths although holds Lvel 2 in English from college. He is very articulate in English, so was suprised at his D grade. Also what unis would you recommend on these terms? Would really appreciate anyone's help. He has written an excellent personal statement as his passion is computers, he just wants to get more qualifications now, especially in programming.

Industry experience can count but would be on an individual basis; you would need to research specific unis and contact them about their entry requirements unfortunately, but it is possible
