8 mark
you need to give the definition of what the question is asking for. for example 'describe the concept identity'.

you also need to include:
examples - these can be examples of [identity], concepts or
theories if applicable (functionalist and marxism)

4 marks are for the definition
4 marks for examples

16 mark
this question needs two paragraphs explaining two features/ways/aspects. for example 'outline and explain two ways in which the family socialises individuals into their culture. this is asking HOW they do it e.g., manipulation.

you need to give examples (see above for types of examples you can give)

12 marks are awarded for knowledge and understanding
4 marks are awarded for interpretation

24 mark
this is a mini essay and it is asking you to explain and evaluate a statement in relation to culture, identity and/or socialisation. again there is a need for sociological evidence.

intro

main body

conclusion

^^ this is the structure of your mini essay

12 marks are awarded for the knowledge and understanding
8 marks are awarded for interpretation
4 marks are awarded for evaluation (this can include criticisms!)

52 mark
this is your big one and it is based on the pre release that you have already seen in class. i could give you a plan for this but it depends on what is in the pre release (the study and the methods etc.)

to give a break down of what you need to put in it is:

strengths and weaknesses of the methods using key concepts - validity, representativeness, generalizability and reliability.

you also need to make reference to sampling and ethics and the theories related to research methods (positivism and interpretivism)

i hope this helps you! if you are unsure about anything PM me and I can give you some more help or clear things up if you need it.:smile:

w
wow that is so helpful you have no idea! however, i still feel really confused about how you intergrate the methods (dairies and semi structured interviews) into the piece?? thanks for the help!
Does anyone know all the key concept that could potentially come up for question 1. I know that all the concepts at the beginning of the text book are potential but what other ones?
How would you go about answering this?
Explain and briefly evaluate the ways in which social class may shape a person’s identity (24)

Those are just some on the top of my head but you can always mention how the bourgeoise exploit the proletariat (working class) to not challenge their status position or their identity. This is referring to the Marxist theory and then obviously you have functionalist theory whom argue that society is a meritocracy based on hard work. And don't forget postmodernism who claim people choose to pic n mix identity!

Those are some written in short. Hope they help and good luck with your exam!!! Xxx

That's confusing now, with the information you provided I was going to base my answer fully on Marxism and Functionalism.

Can anybody help me with predictions for the 8, 16 and 24 mark questions? I'm thinking some around the lines of:
8 marker: define masculinity, ethnicity, multiculturalism, gender, gender roles, sex.
16 and 24 marker ideas: 2 ways/explain and briefly evaluate, how masculinity has changed, how the media/education/family/workplace socialises into gender identity, or how ethnicity is socialised into by the family/religion.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

I was thinking the exact same hopefully they do come up
Anyone willing to share their 52 mark essay structure? Or have any good previous examples of the essays. Thanks

So far all the concepts have been used apart from Multi-culturism
so this could be the one, its worth revising
Hi, does anyone have a list of all the concepts for the 8 marker question by any chance?

My teacher says that the most likely 52 marker to come up will be 'Using the pre-release information and your wider sociological knowledge, explain and evaluate the use of mixed methods as a way of researching diversity in parenting'. 'Apparently' they're right most years, so fingers crossed because i've made sure im completely prepared if that question comes up

My teacher said the same question! Here's to hoping that's the question as I haven't really prepared for anything else
