Education studies course worthwhile for me?

Hello people, to cut a long story short I want to become a Primary school teacher. However, I fall short slightly short of the entry requirements for most primary education courses as I only have 270 UCAS points.

I have contacted my most desired university, Sheffield Hallam and they have recommended I apply for the educational studies course (http://www.shu.ac.uk/prospectus/course/531/).

I basically want to know if this course puts you In good stead to become a primary school teacher? I am aware I would have to complete a PGCE afterwards but my worry is that this would be a sort of 'half measured' approach to getting into a primary school teacher job and may put my chances to a disadvantage? it might be worth noting that I have no interest I taking up any other role in education?

Also, slightly off topic but what realistic chances do you think I have of getting into a primary education course where the entry requirements are only 180 UCAS (10 more than I have)?

Any help greatly appreciated as always
