Scared to commit

I've been sleeping with a really close friend for a few months, I really like him and he wants to begin a relationship. However I'm terrified, I leave for uni next year, I don't want a long distant relationship so we would probably break up for that and so many things could happen to screw up the relationship even before then. Shall I just go for it, and enjoy it whilst it lasts? Or not, as it could seriously ruin our friendship?
Just enjoy it whilst it lasts! Also, speak to your mate about it, they might be feeling the same way.
