White or black paper for Costume Design portfolio/ general advice?

I'm currently doing a BTEC Level 3 in Fashion and clothing and looking to move onto studying Costume Design. My favourite uni so far has been Wimbledon. I'm in the process of making up my portfolio and in a debate with my tutors. They're saying that "anything but white paper will be frowned upon" however they're fashion teachers where as I'm looking at costume. Does this make any difference? I'm loving my work on black paper but every time my tutor catches me sticking things down on it I'm practically shooed away from my own work. I can't find anything on their website to say stick down on white paper and I can't find any advice on anyother websites.I would also appreciate any advice on portfolios as my tutors have basically been anything but helpful! Thankyou
Tbh I think black will look a lot better!

Exactly what I think! I just don't want to stick everything down for a university to tell me it's not presented correctly because it's not on white paper. Trying to avoid an "I told you so" moment!
Yeah, I know what you mean.

I've looked online and I can't see anything.

I don't see why it would be frowned upon, it's creative.
