Writers Society!
Sounds like a good idea, and I was shocked to find out that there is none at the moment!
However, that is something that I wish to remedy quickly enough. Would anyone else be interested in joining such a society? The aim would be to talk about the things that you wrote / are currently writing / plan to write, give advice, help and support each other, give tips, encourage people to get their work published, and how best to go about it, and all that sort of thing. All while having good fun! What more could you want!?
If you are at all interested, please post and say so, so that we can get this society up and running!
(If you feel that this society is a complete waste of time, you are, of course, welcome to say that too
)
I figured this would be the best place to have the thread for the moment, as most people potentially interested would browse around here...

Re: Writers' Society!
Well it definitely sounds as though there's enough interest around. Now I just need to find out what to do to make this society exist. . .
*wanders off to find a soc FAQ*
In the mean time, what genre of writing are you all into?
poetry? Novellas? Fan fiction-style stories? fictional history? fantasy?
Personally, I'm mainly into Fantasy, but I would like to start writing some other things as well, such as a play / screenplay, which would be something very different and interesting.Last edited by Sir Esh; 11-10-2006 at 13:03. -
Re: Writers' Society!I like to write quite emotive books and also include some histroy in it, because I'm weird like that. I also try quite abstract things, try new idea and go against the laws of english language lol. I'm just starting to write a poem at the moment, although I generally suck a poetry, well I think so. I would like to write starting fantasty but I don't read enough of it to get the inspiration I need!(Original post by Sir Esh)

Re: Writers' Society!
Well, it very much depends on who that person is, and how well you get on with that person. On the one hand, it's very good if it's a person you spend a lot of time with and know very well, because you'll be able to interrelate all your ideas, and you are probably less likely to want the book to go in different ways - you'll both be aiming for the same goal.
On the other hand, it can be something that will break two people apart. If you are normally very good friends, then getting too close, and emotionally involved (you do, when writing something) isn't always good.
I'd say that for the series that we're working on now, it's a lot easier for my brother and me to generate ideas and progress the plot, develop the characters etc. because we can bounce it off each other.
But I can well understand how people don't like doing that. If they're writing something, it becomes their baby, and they don't want other people interfering and disturbing. They'll only let people look once it's all finished and polished off.
It also depends what you're writing. poetry, for example, is something I'm sure is absolutely impossible to co-write. It's got to be something personal. -
Re: Writers' Society!
Now I have
It looks like a very good idea! A lot of the time, writing doesn't happen because you restrict yourself too much. I'm in a Writers' Group in school, and the teacher who takes us often gives us a few words to start off (either random words that we have got to somewhere incorporate, or a starting sentence or something. Some stimulus) and then tells us to write, and not stop until he says so. It's a lot of fun and we create some rather strange stuff. But it does acheive its goal: we write. That is generally the biggest problem: people don't write. You have an amazing idea, and a really cool character, but don't put it down. This sort of thing will get you used to jotting down all your ideas, however crazy.
This NaNoWriMo thing sounds very good!
