I really can't see the downside to trying to get to know him some more, or to discover his intentions. I mean, there is no real losing in being honest with him.

1 - You'll find out if he actually likes you back, if so then great good job.

2 - You'll find out he's not interested in you, if so then i'd be seeing him as using you for convenience.

I think either way, you should try and hang out with him more often if you choose not to be open with him.
