Are you asking if this is balanced?

What about the CL?

Posted from TSR Mobile
I think the CL is meant to be Cl - Chlorine

Yeah I know that lol I mean it's not balanced is it?

Posted from TSR Mobile
Nope, it's not balanced. Just remove the 2 from HCl

But you have to keep the 2 because it's 2 moles of HCL

HCl+NaOH→NaCl+H2O

that's balanced
2 moles refers to concentration, not the formula
By 2 moles, do you mean n= 2 mol? Because molar ratio and moles are two different things

2 moles does not mean concentration. You're mixing it up with molarity

It says 2M of HCL

A capital M (called molarity)means concentration (mol dm-3). This has nothing to do with the chemical equation, so just leave it when balancing.

OHHHH! that makes alot more sense now thank you! !
But wait so how do you know how many moles there are, would you have to calculate it or do they sometimes tell you

You're welcome :smile: Sometimes it's given to you and sometimes you have to calculate it using:
n= concentration x volume
Or
n = mass / molar mass

again, n doesn't affect the balancing of the equation

Thankyou yeah I've learnt that formula but thank you for helping :smile:.
Btw just one more question if they tell you the moles of a substance what unit do they write it in? :getmecoat:

so moles does mean concentration?

Are you asking if this is balanced? As it is.

NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H2O (simple neutralization reaction, where everything is on a 1:1 ratio)
M = Molarity = Concentration = C

Measured in gdm^3 or Molddm^3

N = Number of moles = moles
