Fitting in an after market stereo help!

Hey, so after reading around, it seemed best to just fit in a stereo myself.
But, I have no idea what I will need to go about doing this i.e. adaptors and need some guidance as I am a completely noob with cars :frown:

I'm wanting to replace my Audi A3 2004 sports 1.6 stock concert stereo with the SONY MEX-N5000bt.

Best thing to do is join an Audi A3 forum and look at one of the sections that will probably be I.C.E (in car entertainment), electronics etc as there may be a guide there. If not start a topic and just ask the question.

Looking at a picture of the stereo it looks like the stock stereo is just a single din size, but it looks like the plastic around the actual controls is part of it that might mean you need a fascia plate (plastic trim, that fills in the area around the new head unit). So by the looks of it a single din stereo (like you have linked) should go straight in with a fascia. Electronics wise everything you need should come with the head unit, but don't take my word for it, I say join a forum. You may also need a wiring harness.

Hope I've given you some idea. Ask about what head unit is recommended as there are mixed reviews on Sonys.

Update: Looked at some pics

Looks like a fascia is needed

That's what it is like with a new head unit, and as you can see there is a fascia around the outside

If you have steering wheel controls, you'll lose their function unless you get an adapter too.
