i for one must admit that at times when iv asked for advice on this forum, some people are really harsh and they just let you down, and blows your confidence. maybe i am to blame for this, but what can you do. we fight on and live on. that is why i dont want to disclose much about my uni applications because most people will have opinions and not what i want to hear!

You've mentioned it about 100 times, wtf is this BTEC thing.
Reply 48
3 times...because ne1 seems to have reacted to it....its basically one of those 'non-respected' courses...similar to a GNVQ....and definately not as resepcted as alevels...teachers in my school consider them a joke...i was jhust trying to make the point that the potential to study law may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, and there is flexible in the assessment of individual applicants.
yea but I am assuming it was not the only qualification held by the applicant, I mean if you have it alongside 3 a-levels then it;'s fine as a supplement so what's your point?

no,no The BTEC National Diploma is:

18-unit National Diploma extends and deepens the specialist focus of the 12-unit Certificate. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A levels/ AVCEs and is triple-graded, for example, PPP, PPM.

it is equivalnt to three alevles....BTEC's are less resepcted than alevels like film trust me...and ppl have been accepted to warwick with them....so my point it...the whole syastem is a bit random really...as ppl such as yaself have got top alevels and dnt get in but ppl with "less respected" qualifications have....im just saying ppl that dnt do "conventional" subjects, often dnt get in top unis, but sometimes they do...
Yeah what you say is true but to use a phrase I hate it's sort of the "exception that proves the rule", the uni might be doing it to show that they aren't just biased against such a qualification. Also, for every one person who gets in with things like that I bet there are about 1000 who didn't so you shouldn't hang your hopes on it if you catch my drift.

What are you two arguing about now?
Reply 53
lol nothing much....not arguing, just discussing....plus he seems to be doing a degree in law at uni and would therefore destroy me lol....i no mate i was just saying that there are sometimes excepttions....i no i wnt get into the "top" unis but its worth a shot...espcially as i nearly had a whole year off college...and am doing an extra alevel...so u'no...cant blame a guy for trying...:P

i'll realistically get into leicetser and Queen Mary....hopefully....

King's College London.

Once again, best of luck.

At the end of the day chances are a uni would chose someone with more respected subjects over someone who has not. They consider some subjects too easy or not academic enough. Doing a A-Lvl in one year is easier than doing it with the other A-Lvls. Film Studies is not considered that respectable according to some and I could see people frowning upon the Law A-Lvl as it is taken after all the other A-Lvls.

UCL, KCL, Warwick etc I could not see you getting into due to the two above mentioned problems. You might be able to but I would only put down say one as hoping you get offers from three ish is very risky.

When I applied I chose three AAB-AAA unis, two ABB unis and one BBB uni and was realistic in which ones I applied to. I got offers from all of them.

You might want to consider some ABB-BBB unis incase the "better" ones dont make offers.

Maybe something like this: -

Leicester - AAB
Kent - ABB
Hull - BBB
QMU - AAB-ABB
KCL - AABb
Maybe a AAA uni in this slot

Maybe ring the unis and ask the admissions people for the law department what they think of the subjects and how you are doing one in a gap year. Some may say they are fine with it others may frown upon them.

Also make sure your personal statement is very good.

Good luck applying btw

UCL is ace. Much better than that place just outside Coventry that's masquerading as a place of learning. :p:
