Should Private Businesses be allowed to refuse serving certain people?

For example,
Businesses refusing to serve Gay people because they don't like them or refusing to serve Muslims.

All private business have the right to refuse services.

However they may not refuse service based on the protected characteristics laid out in the Equality Act 2010.

Do you think they should be allowed to or not?

I think that the current law is fit for purpose.

If you want to operate a private business within the UK that arbitrarily discriminates against homosexuals, you can legitimately **** off.

What about Muslims?

If you think you should be able to refuse service to gays then you should be able to refuse service to black people, or white people. i bet peoples views would change if they were banned from Tescos simply for being white.

The law isn't fantastic for me because its inherently one persons word against another.

If I don't want to serve a gay person then as long as I don't say its because they are gay (maybe I just don't like them very much as a person), then there isn't a great deal you can do to prove if I'm lying or not.

It is either the current law or stopping private businesses having the right to refuse, which would be ridiculous.

I agree, I just don't agree that the law in this area is top notch in regards to proof.
Why would you want to discriminate against people who are interested in your business?
If you wish to act in a discriminatory manner based on religion or sexuality, find a country whose views more closely align with your own. This is not that country.

This will be interesting. Why don't you like gay people? I may have misconstrued this view, but is it that you don't like gay people and that's why you feel the right to refuse their business?

dont know any gay people to not like them tbf.
It Hasnt got anything to do with them.
.I just dont like the idea of the government forcing people to sell to people they dont want to.
We live in such a lilly livered soft society now days.
its like you dont like me ? fair enough i would just say screw you and it will be your loss because you wont be getting my money

I agree that we are a bit too PC in our culture being scared of saying 'black' or 'gay' in fear of possibly offending someone. That is true and maybe you are right in saying that you should be able to refuse people's business if you don't want to be affiliated with them. But that also brings to question why specifically you mention gay and Muslim people, you seemed to dislike them for some reason.

Also, I never said anything about disliking you, that was a conclusion you materialised out of nothing.

My question is why do you want to refuse them business?

lol nah that werent to you mate,
when i said if you dont like me im talking about if a business or a person dont like me then screw them. I wont help them make money.
And I like muslims but i like to create topics that are controversial.
My topics arent really offensive its just to start a debate.
Regarding homosexuals i will be the first to admitt that i dont understand it and mano o mano action is not my thing atall.I cant sit and watch two men kiss because i am extremely masculine and straight but i dont dislike them.
btw i never once mentioned gays in my previous two posts

That is a fair point, you did not, but I was referring to the original post. Also, for the sake of causing debate you certainly succeeded.

I do understand that you wouldn't want to see to men kissing in public, but it has nothing to do with you being masculine, I know plenty of women who would say the same and many masculine men who wouldn't care less. But, and be completely honest, would you sat the same thing if it were two women kissing in public, because this element always interests me to see the answer.

Also, another point you never here LGBTAQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, A-Sexual, Questioning plus) saying they don't want to see straight people kissing in public, why is that?

i wouldnt say the same thing if it was two women because i like women and i am attracted to them.
I do not like men.
Its like porn.I dont watch the stuff btw but i have in the past a number of years ago but i never watched gay porn.
if a straight person cannot or will not watch gay porn does that make them homophobic?
Its exactly the same tbh.
Anyone who says yes doesnt have a leg to stand on.

Of course it wouldn't make you homophobic, porn is a reflection of your sexual attraction, which no one can change and anyone to say it is being as ridiculous and discriminating as any homophobe, racist or sexist.

But, what about my question about not questioning straight people kissing in public?

Being gay and being masculine are not mutually exclusive.
