Hi there,

Can anyone find me a statistic for the number (or percentage) of students who stay on for A-Levels, as opposed to work.

In other words, what percentage of sixteen year olds leave for employment after GCSEs?

Thanks very much!!

I'm not sure but evidently many of them should stay at school a bit longer.

Well technically only 54% of the school leavers can do A levels as they have the necessary 5 minimum C grades. However out of that I don't know how many go on to A levels.

I always thought it was around 30% which do A levels but I would guess the amount that stay in education would be much greater than this, perhaps about 70% but this could be any level.

They shouldn't have to stay at school longer; it's the responsibility of the schooling system to ensure basic levels of literacy and numeracy are reached
