FOUNDATION ART COURSE HELPPP!!!!!!!! 2015 entry

Hi,
I am an international student planning to apply for an art foundation course (2015 entry). Ive browsed thru many unis, but now Im totally confused.
Can anyone give details about the course, the number of intakes, the quality of teaching, details of the course- about the foll. unis: CCW, LCC, Falmouth UAL, Falmouth International and the art foundation courses provided by Nottingham Trent, Brunel and Loughborough. Please help me choose the best one.

hiya, I'm currently studying an art foundation at loughborough. i moved here from south london so it was nice to be far from home (though I'm sure not as far as you)
the course is great the first stage for about 2 months is experimental where you do a bunch of 2 day projects in fine art, textiles, photography etc. and then after this you have to choose your top 2 specialisms: 3d design, visual communication (graphics), fine art, textiles. and then after a week project in each of the 2 choices you choose your final choice where you will begin stage 2 as you will stay in this specialism until the end of the course. there is a bit of time to change pecialism but its best if you can make an early decision.
it's a very exciting and experimental course which is very free so a lot of the time you direct your own work (this can be both good and bad depending on how you work) in stage 1 it is very easy to fall behind so its best to do work when you get it if possible.
classes are from 10-4; monday, tuesday, thursday, friday. it can be tiring bu at least it's a steady schedule. and there isn't always too much work so you can easily make use of free time afterwards.
loughborough university itself has got a great reputation not only in the art and design sector but generally as well so people are usually impressed when i tell them i study here.
the uni is really patriotic and everyone is really friendly and the campus is huge and so beautiful.
my only personal downfall is that i miss being so close to a large city because loughborough is a very small town but i suppose that can be a good thing as everything is walking distance - which is great exercise haha and nottingham, birmingham and leicester are all very close too

Thanks for giving such a good advice. So, what are the entry requirements for the foundation course? Do you apply directly to the univ or thru UCAS? Any idea on how many international students studying there?

you apply directly to the university as its not a UG or a PG
theres about 180 of us on the course, not sure the exact numbers of international but id assume theres maybe 20% international - theres quite a few who have settled in well and made god friends. a lot are from europe or asia i have noticed

I chose visual communication. It was a pretty easy choice as I knew I wanted to study graphic design before starting the course but I needed a good portfolio to apply to graphic design degrees and I've got so much for my folio now its hard to Choose!
My second option was 3d design and I didn't know what to expect but turns out I really enjoyed it. It's similar to product design but more artsy than mathatics based etc
Others found it difficult to choose between similar ones such as 3d and viscom or fine art and textiles but that's why there is a bit of time to change after. Also if for exple you're into graphic design but like the possibility of textiles. You can easily incorporate textiles and materials into your viscom into your projects because as I said before it's quite free and self directed as you progress into the course. So its just about choosing what you're passionate about
