I can completely understand why people do it. The alternative is to get a low paid, 9-5 job, stuck with parents for another couple of years and only being able to socialise at weekends (or worse, being forced to work weekends). Why would you choose this option when you can have three years of relative freedom to do what you want, meet loads of new people, get a load of money given to you and increase your job prospects at the same time? While 'the experience' wasn't the only reason I went to uni, but I didn't go in there with a plan of what I wanted to get out of it or the intention to work really hard. I still came out of it with a First Class degree, a grad job and so many amazing nights out.
