IOE PGCE 2015 entry

I thought as it's early days we could start with one for Primary and Secondary together.

Out of curiosity, how many people are under/postgraduate vs. people who've been out of education for a while?

I'm doing Primary (gonna specialise in KS2 when I get the chance), and graduated from my MA in 2007. A long time ago

Going to be doing secondary Computing and ICT(11-18). I am a undergraduate in my final year of study now, but considered a mature student :frown:

Thank you for setting the page up, be good to see who else is going IOE.

Hi everyone! I'm coming straight from doing a degree in illustration to a Primary PGCE. I'm moving down from Nottingham for the course so I'm very excited. Is anyone else moving cities? :--)

Will be moving as well, not far only Canterbury to London, but god accommodation is expensive in London. Has anyone looked at potential accommodation, I am thinking may end up living in the Halls.

I am going to be studying Primary PGCE also. I finished my degree in theatre in 2011. I also have a 3 year old son and I am 27. Good luck everyone!

It is very expensive! I'm looking at trying to find a cheap flat or something, but it would be good to find people to share with! Is anyone here looking for a similar thing?

As it stands, I am keeping my options open, its like £200pw for Halls which is crazy expensive, local housing seems cheaper, but can be pot luck with who you are sharing with. Guess you're looking at house shares then?

Hi everyone!

I graduated from an Anthropology degree last year. I am doing Primary PGCE, am 23 and very excited to start in September.

I live in North London so will most probably commute to IOE.
I'm living in West London (part of the reason I applied to IOE), so I'll be commuting, too. My undergrad was in History, and my MA in Museum Studies (I graduated about a year before all the funding started being cut!). It's so interesting to see all the different subject backgrounds people have!

Living in London IS crazy expensive. It's of course less expensive the further out you go, the further you are from the tube, and the more people you share with. Goes without saying that the further away from the centre you are, the closer you want to be to transport links. Also bear in mind that a lot of the time you won't be at IOE, but in the schools, so you probably won't be commuting to central London most of the time. My key thought would be: close to transport. Crossing London can take over an hour, and everyone is doing it, so you want to cut the time as much as possible.

I've been looking into all the discounts I can get as a student. So far: student 18+ Oyster card (you can't get it until you're enrolled, and it's only valid for travelcards, not PAYG), and a Council Tax discount. I say apply for everything you can get! Annoyingly, the Student Loan/grants and the Bursaries are paid at different times, which makes it hard to plan. I think I'm going to pay them straight into another account and draw down a 'salary' each month to be able to manage it.

I'm super excited, and am pooooossibly over-preparing as you might be able to tell! But I'm so keen to get started! I've been thinking on and off about teaching since I was an undergraduate, and have been seriously working towards it for the last year. Now I'm just kicking myself that it took me this long. And I have a Very Boring Job which gives me far too much time to over-think every aspect! I've already bought folders.

I emailed the university in December, they replied around the 20th ish, but I have just received a email with the official offer (attached as PDF) today, stating it is being sent in post today, hopefully you will receive yours shortly.
