I DIDNT STUDY FOR THE SEMICONSERVATIVE MODEL....
great way to start the exam with it being the first question....

OMG... So true! Before the exam I was like I NEED to re-revise the semi conservative model and I was so sure I wasn't going to forget. But then I started the exam and i was like  but thank God there wasn't questions with too much detail on how to conduct the experiment because that would have been a nightmare. How about the last 2 questions about the potassium ions and the blood cells being at 4 Degrees and and the concentration in Glucose...?
the time was not enough :frown:

I AGREE! the potassium ions question threw me off :/
Aside from that last potassium question I THINK I did fairly well.... the question on Atherosclerosis threw me off slightly!

How did you guys answer te question regarding "what is the use of RNA in protein synthesis", did you have to describe the whole process of protein synthesis?? And could someone please link me to the chem U1 IAL jan 2015 thread if possible?

And is anyone able to make an unofficial mark scheme, it would be very helpful please

I wrote coupled transport😶

Yea, that's what i did. Well i am sure that's what anyone would do XD. It had like 5 marks (right? XD) what else could it be. i just wrote the whole process with emphasis on what the mRNA and tRNA did.

The last 2 questions were nightmares but i think the second to last question wasn't that bad (as long as what i wrote was correct then it's not XD) HOWEVER, the last question yea i messed that up i just wrote whatever i had in mind at the time i just wrote the last word as they said drop the pens T.T.(About the second to last question) i just went on about how potassium ions are small and their conc. in the cell was more than out and they moved by diffusion and thats why the conc. decreased but Hemoglobin is a large molecule so it did not move out and it's conc. stayed the same. Well if that is wrong idk what's right then XD cuz i just HATE the transport part of unit 1.

I also mentioned briefly that rRNA makes up the bulk of a ribosome I don't know i thats worth a mark but it's there

Yeah that i wanted to add too. The problem was i remembered it after the exam was over XD, but nonetheless i gave them more than enough to get the five marks (i hope so...) so yea if you did the same then i think it was the right thing to do (actually the only thing there was to do XD)

i don't think there is any. well i actually don't know, but those threads come to life either the night before the exam (which is in a few hours) OR after the exam itself like this one.
How many of you are doing the unit 2 exam? And if so how are you coping? I'm currently dying 😥😥

Can anyone help me out with this question? I need an exact answer. ''Describe the processes which cause a cell to become specialised''Thanks in advance.

Cell is exposed to a stimuli - stimuli activates/inactivates gene - mRNA is transcribed for active genes. Proteins are synthesised accordingly - proteins determine function and structure of cell.

I think it's something along those lines.... Sorry if it isn't.
