Misuse of the religious society threads

Hi everyone,

Just an update that the religious society threads are not designed for debating but for members of religious communities to come together and socialise.

As a result of these threads becoming derailed and complaints being submitted, any member who posts in these threads to troll or with negative intentions will be issued an immediate ban from the Faith and Spirituality forum.

If you spot someone trolling in these threads please use the report function to direct them to the CT.

Thanks!

okey dokey! :h:
I shall try to not get banned :teehee:

Thanks for new rule!
This is much too vague. We all know that quite often people define as "trolls" simply those they disagree with

Also, I don't think that there is any point in keeping on TSR some sort of religious "reservations" where people can post whatever they want without having to accept any sort of contradiction

E.g. on one particular society, people spent their time badmouthing members of another society, without the possibility for any reaction

This attempt at religious apartheid is not a positive development : we are all responsible persons (sort of) after all

Use the report system or make your own thread and quote them.

Solved.

It's not "religious apartheid". There is a time and a place for debate. Nobody is saying you can't have debates, they're just asking for a place where people can discuss things without having to worry about a barrage of people trying to start an argument. It's just as reasonable as asking people not to debate the merits of the British educational system in the study help forum when someone's asking for help in a GCSE Maths question. Debates on religion are fine but you have to respect that people don't always want to do that.

I'm guessing for about as long as atheism.

The point is not trolling on those threads, is it really necessary to nit-pick?

the reality is that debates take place all the time in the religious society threads

however if, at some moment, someone strongly disagrees with your opinion, you will be reported

and that's all

Actually I kind of understand the need for Atheist society i mean they need their own but the ex-muslims have left islam to go into one of the other societies.
Why are they even in the debate section, seems quite silly to me, stick em in the chat section.

they should be renamed as "religious chatting with no dissenters allowed"

There is a closed thread from incipient, which states this:

"These are also the places to post and discuss religious verses, images and the like."

A synonym of discuss is debate, I wonder have the rules been recently changed, so no Discussion/Debate is allowed anymore, if so is it because of the sensitivities of the members. I can understand the war on trolling, but Discussion no.

the reality is, many religious people want to have a cozy corner where they can indulge in mutual religious back-slapping (telling each other how lucky, intelligent, pious etc they are - as compared to those miscreants out there)

they don't want to have anyone disturbing them in that exercise

why this forum should cater for that attitude by creating religious ghettos is a mistery

Does it upset you to see other people enjoying their Religions?
If not, then what is your reason to interfere?
Please take the atheist society off this (censorship) list, we enjoy the debates within ourselves and with others. Unlike other societies it doesn't threaten our intellectual honesty. Hm.

How exactly is that not debate? If people want a thread where they can state their opinions without anybody being able to respond except to say "I also have that opinion", they can do it in the chat section. I don't recognise this rule.

debate and discussion are the very essence of this website, where people from all backgrounds and religions come together and confront their ideas

and yes, people desperately need to be confronted with ideas different from the ones prevailing in their usual environment

there are already enough Muslim (Christian, Hindi, Sikh, atheist etc) chatrooms on the net; no need to add another one

and yes, it disturbs me to see TSR slowly giving in to political correctness; I have been on this website for years on end, and only in the last few months have I been systematically infracted when conducting lively discussions

the difference between a discussion and a debate is wafer-thin (a debate is simply a slightly more systematic, organised discussion)

the reality is that some "believers" simply can't stand being contradicted - so a religious ghetto is the obvious solution

as quite rightly pointed out, I think that the atheist society would gladly do away with any censorship of this sort (and most likely the non-Muslim society also)
