knee swollen to double size

my knee has been in pain for the past week or so, I thought it was just a flare up of my spondylitis. I only just looked at it this morning and my knee has essentially doubled in size, all at random. I haven't injured myself or anything.

I don't have a doctor at uni and don't want to go all the way home to get it checked, I have an extension on my coursework so I'd rather stay at uni and get it finished. Is a swollen knee serious? what should i do

Sounds like septic arthritis, in which case I'd suggest going to A&E as soon as you can.

You really need to get your knee aspirated and treated asap if it is indeed septic arthritis, you don't want to risk damaging your knee.
