Heya... interviews can be so scary, I can totally sympathise with that...

As far as your outfit goes, I would say go for something smart, if you don't have a dress (such as my self) I would go for something like a blouse or smart shirt with some sensible trousers and shoes... not necessarily heels but maybe pumps or something? As long as your comfortable but make a good impression you will feel a lot better as last thing you need is to feel self conscious and nervous too ^_^ I speak from experience 0_0

They'll probably ask you what you know about the company, what your background is work wise, for in a convenience store I imagine you can talk about customer service, problem solving, time management... why you want the job... they may also give you a scenario in the work setting and say how would you go about solving "...." They may also ask if you have any plans to progress within the company... if you can research the role and what it entails, it may help you

I hope this helps you and really wish you luck, I know how terrifying it can be... as know how different interviews can be... Just remember though, they will be lucky to have you and even if you do not get the job, you will have had a first interview experience that will help you in the future  Good luck!

I have an interview for Laura ashleys, Quality Control inspector, this is my first ever interview and I'm so scared I don't know what questions they are going to ask or what to wear or anything. If anyone can give me some nice advice on what to say to the questions or what to wear then that would be great thanks, Ive never had a job before I've only done work experience in a convenience store.

Firstly, most people get a bit nervous about interviews. A good interviewer will do their best to help you relax- they won't be trying to trip you up. Questions vary hugely between interviews, but most interviewers want to know a bit about you and what your interests are- don't lie, but do link them back to the job role. For example, if you're customer facing, saying something like "In my spare time I enjoy socialising, and this means I'd be good at talking to customers and building relationships with them."

Some good tips are to research the company online, on their website, they will often talk about their mission statement, and sometimes you will be asked about what you know about the company. If you can still access the job advert, also check that to remind you what the company is looking for.

Sometimes you will also have a skills based interview, where you're asked to complete a number of tasks in order to check your competence. Usually, these will be relatively simple, e.g. type up a letter in Word, create a spreadsheet in Excel, maybe deal with a pretend scenario.

Dress smartly, but not in a way that makes you feel self conscious- Trousers, blouse and a blazer with smart shoes is fine- don't wear heals if you aren't used to them. I normally put my hair in a bun, as it's quite long, and I think this looks more professional. I also wear a bit of natural make-up, but again, this probably isn't a good idea if that's not something you'd normally do.

Thank you for both for the replies. has really helped me a lot, I'm a bit worried though as I don't have any smart trousers, My sister says to wear black trousers as they are smart but I only have jeans, I have some dark green khaki topshop jeans? Do you think they are smart enough? I also only have converse & some black platform heels. Was thinking of wearing a black blouse, green khaki jeans, black platform heels and a leather jacket, But I'm not sure if it looks too much.
Also putting my hair in a doughnut bun.

Tbh, that sounds a bit much for a job interview, it sounds a bit more like "going on a night out". Can you get to a primark or something and buy some cheap, smart trousers- black or grey are probably best. I would also try and buy some smart, slightly more sensible shoes, as, even if you're allowed to wear jeans to work, you probably won't be allowed very high heals or trainers.

I also think a leather jacket is a bit too informal, but it would probably be fine if you wore it to the interview and took it off once you were there.

I know it sounds silly, but people do judge on first impressions, and if you get the job you'll probably need appropriate clothes to wear during work anyway.

Should I just wear my converse then? Because I can't go anywhere to buy anything & the interview is tomorrow morning.
Bit worried now... Maybe I should just wear the black top with the jeans and I'll try to see if there is any black shoes anywhere.. My sister had some black dolly shoes but don't know where they have gone.

If you can't buy anything before tomorrow, then I would say wear the platform shoes, but I would try and borrow some if you can. You should probably try and buy an "interview outfit" before you have any more interviews though, if you don't get the job of course.

Thank you, it wasn't that bad but I didn't answer the questions very well because I was so nervous, I wore a white blouse, skinny jeans and brown ankle boots in the end. I wish I wore more casual as the man interviewing me wasn't very smart he was just wearing one of those yellow jackets builders wear because it's just a lifting boxes kinda job.
Ah well, he said he would ring me after interviewing everyone and that I might need another interview.

Well it sounds like he's interested in you- I think it's always good to look smart even if the people interviewing you aren't necessarily. Good luck.
