Maths problem solving

The scales of a fish consist of arcs of circles of radius r cm. Each row of scale overlaps the row below. The scales within a row just touch with their centres lying on a straight line. The next row of scales, which overlaps the row before it, is r cm above the previous row, with the centres of the scales above the points where the scales in the previous touch.
What is the visible area of each single scale?


Can anyone help with this wuestion? I'm trying to practice problem solving for ukcat/Cambridge exam and I'm reply stuck on this one
