Bitten by a leech!

:eek: I ventured into a jungle in Borneo a few days ago, and a leech bit near my right ankle. Yeesh. :eek: *shudder*

So I got this nasty wound and it looked something like this.



I was wondering why is there a dark ring surrounding the wound. And can anyone give some advice on removing those darned creatures the next time they bit me? Thanks a lot :smile: .

Don't worry about a leech bite, they're not harmful to humans. If it happens again you're probably better off waiting for it to have its fill of blood and wait for it to drop off of its own accord, the blood loss isn't significant.

As above, dw about it, you get them in British Lakes as well...as a keen sailor i am used to getting them! Just wait till they drop off, you may get a slight scar for a couple of months or so but after that it goes.
