your thoughts on religious education

well what do you guys think?
It should include looking at criticism of religion and religious concepts, not just simply teaching about the beliefs of people of different religions. Faith schools shouldn't be exempt from that either.
I work in a state school, from what I've seen of R.E. lessons they seem to be really good. They teach about religion rather than teaching religion, which is an important distinction. It's one of the reasons I'm against faith schools, academies and the faith schools set up by religious pseudo-charities which masquerade under the title of 'free school'. The National curriculum is brilliant on the R.E. front and schools should be encouraged to stick with it. It's all about respect and learning how to express your own thoughts on matters that religion is involved in.

It'd be nice if they taught about humanism as well though.
If parents must insist on brainwashing their children with a pack of poisonous lies they should have to do it on their own time and at their own expense.
