I think the question is telling you to use the wrong substitution. You need to use u^2=x-2

I have substitute U into the function. But it is really complicated and I can not simplify it.
I think there was a question very similar to this (perhaps identical) posted here not too long ago with a strange substitution and it didn't seem solvable that way at A-level.
