I've just deleted my facebook account. I've never felt so liberated

I finally decided to delete my facebook account. I tried to keep my privacy settings secure but no matter what I did I noticed pictures were public and there were so many loop holes in the privacy.

I have never been one to accept people idont know well on there so it was only my closest friends on there but I still found it pointless. Loved it at first but now I'm fed up of it all.

I I deleted it this morning and I've already finished a form I needed to do for placement as I have more time now in not checking it.

i feel so liberated and pretty good about the fact no one knows things about me. I'm now going to be a mystery to all the nosey people around.

Am I really the only young person without a facebook? Or have you also followed suit and either deleted yours or never had one

Facebook is pretty crap to be honest. I never post photos or make statuses anymore, I just keep it because it's a convenient way to keep in contact with school and Uni friends.

This. I can't be bothered storing phones and updating them every time someone loses his phone.
That's why I use Twitter.
I only pictures on Private Message to friends who I trust. Twitter is much more private. I never post real life photos of myself as well.
You sound like you're trying out for a Nobel peace prize. I'm 100% you are not the only young person without a Facebook account.

I have Facebook, but I never use it.

I'd have deleted my account years ago, but I need it for the messenger app.
I just keep mine so people can contact me through Messenger. Really helps for group convos and events too. I just never really post anything, and I very rarely check it - once a day at most.

Is it really? Everyone you post on twitter is public to everyone. Its also more difficult to use than Facebook with all of the quoting etc
I know a few people who have deleted their accounts or decided to stop using them. They very quickly found they missed out on social interactions in the real world. Most revoked their decision pretty quickly but a few went full sociopath and I've not heard from them since.

Have one but don't use it.

Don't feel liberated yet because it takes 30 days of inactivity to completely delete your account. Not that I'm trying to dampen your achievement but I had deleted my old fb account many years ago and the requirement to delete it was 30 days of no activity on fb. And yes fb sucks!

I know loads of peoe who don't use Facebook much but they still have an account. So think I know anyone who doesn't.

I don't use it to keep In Contact with old friends as I'm in regular contact with them via the phone and real life. So it's not useful for me there.

You can make your account private.

Sociopath?

Is that the new word for those who wish to stay out of social networks?
Funny because the word has obvious negative connotations. Sounds like socially stigmatising those who leave social networks.

I still don't like what you post, like when you try tweeting famous, all of your followers see it.

That and follow blogs... and cats :colondollar:
..."deactivated" my facebook account.
Lol i used to have an account i frequently used but i've deleted it. idk, one day i just realized I wasted too much time on Facebook and other social media and that i'd stopped living in the real world if you know what i mean

Like when you go out with a group of people, alot of them just care about is how good the group selfies are and will spend atleast an hour trying to get the perfect picture so they could upload them and tell the world 'what a good time they're having'.

I did make a new one though lol because i needed to stay in contact with some people but i rarely use it. No photos or statuses.
Cool story.

noun, Psychiatry.
1.
a person with a psychopathic personality whose behaviour is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

It's not necessarily the best word to use in this situation given it's formal meaning. Informally it's used to mean anyone who shuns, or actively dislikes, social situations. Not because they're shy or introverted but because they just don't like the idea of being with people. Some might consider it related to misanthropy although in my experience of dealing with these kinds of people, they're not misanthropists they just don't like socialising.

Apparently it was first used in the 1940s so it's not a new word.

When did posting and uploading pics became a social activity?
