Official Edexcel M1 2015 Thread - 3rd June 2015

Official M1 Thread

Hiya guys,

Only 3 months left. Seems long, infact one of the later exams. This is a discussion thread where 'we' can talk about problems, and everything to do with M1.

Helpful websites are;

http://www.examsolutions.net
http://www.madasmaths.com
http://www.mathspapers.co.uk

M1 topics are as follow;

Dynamics
Kinematics
Vectors
Equilibriums
Statics

Definately one of the tougher modules in AS Maths.

Useful equations (note you aren't given);

f=ma (vector application also)
v=u+at
s= t/2(v+u)
s=v^2+u^2+2as
s=vt-1/2a(t^2)
s=ut+1/2a(t^2)
I=mv-mu
Equilibrum means 0 acceleration

Good luck!!

Hiya! A2 resit candidate here from last year. Always sucked at mechanics but since I've been going over it for a while it's seems OK now...can't believe I just said that!

How's your revision going

I'm hating this exam too especially when you have like 7 or 8 mark questions! At least the grade boundaries are generous.

I completely agree with you. What did you get last year?

C3 - 95
S1 - 100

You?
What do you have to get in each topic to get an A*

you just need a 90 average in c3/c4 and an 80 average across all 6 units

Any good ways to revise for Mechanics?
I think M1 is bit harder than C12.
I hate M1, and by the looks of things I'll be resitting next year and doing M2 (unless I drop Further Maths, which wont happen).

Btw, I know you get marked for individual methods and all, but does it count if you did sine of the angle of an inclined plane for one method then cosine for another method. I never know which one to use and it'll end up being definitely right if they mark both and give the best score.

So writing 2 solutions down?
Well unless you state your final answer to be this, they'll choose the solution which holds the most marks
otherwise if you think about it, I could say an answer to this question is 1,2,3,4, or 5
which sort of defeats the point of a question

So I could get full marks on a question without really knowing how to do the question?

why don't you ask one of us how to do a question?
rather than risking it lol

I'm going to do a past paper during the weekend. I don't have much time atm due to Chemistry Unit 1 on Friday.
