Re: Nursing interviews for University!Hi I had a 4 hour interview for child nursing at Hudds about two weeks ago. Its nothing to worry about honestly they make you feel really at ease and are friendly.. nothing to make your brain hurt! There weren't any one to one interviews everyone just had a 5 min individual chat at the end with the tutors. don't no if its any different with adult nursing. just go in whatever your comfortable in but obviously not scruffy.(Original post by salsa4989)
Hi,
I have an interview at Huddersfield uni for the adult nursing degree on Wednesday and was wondering if anybody had been to one. Its one of them 4 hours interviews with the group discussion, activities etc. What would be the best thing to wear? What can i expect?
Thanks -
Re: Nursing interviews for University!Don't worry, it's only been two weeks, plenty time for them to get back to you(Original post by nicolajo1)

Re: Nursing interviews for University!thanks jodie - you re a doll for putting up all that(Original post by jodietripp)
Hi,
I have had an interview at Southampton uni for Child Nursing and received an unconditional offer! I also have an interview tomorrow for Cardiff uni!
Typical questions were: why do you want to be a nurse and study your particular branch, what do you think is the role of a nurse, what do you think makes a good nurse, what is the most important quality in a nurse, where does nursing take place (i.e. not just hospitals but gp, community, patients homes), what do you intend to get out of your studies, why do you want to come to this uni, what skills make you suitable for this course, what experience do you have, strengths and weaknesses, how will you manage your time, how do you cope with stress, how do you deal with criticism/authority, if you had a large amount of money to spend on healthcare what would you spend it on and why, what do you know about current nursing issues in the media (swine flu, job cuts are a good bet), what challenges affect nursing in the uk (job cuts, bad press, statistics more readily available to public), how would you cope with the death of a patient, your inspirations, your greatest achievement, why is communication important, why is teamwork important, what does confidentiality mean and why is it important, what do you know about consent, how would you handle challenging patients, what do you think is the worst part of nursing, what are your future plans.
I hope this isn't too exhaustive...better to be over prepared! They always ask if you have any questions so prepare some ready e.g. ask about topics covered in the course, placements, accomodation if stuck! Also if you have a group interview some tips may be to make sure you let others talk and also ask them what they think (this shows good team work).
The interview I had consisted of maths and english (which were quite simple), group interview and one to one interview. They want to get to know you, and they already like you or they wouldn't have asked you to interview! Be yourself and don't worry! Just make sure your clear why you want to study nursing. They expect you to be nervous so they're always very welcoming.
Tips on what to wear: No jeans or trainers! Don't go too formal e.g. a suit, just black trousers and a shirt looks good. Accessorize if you like, you can have a personality!
Good luck to all
Any questions give me a shout...I hope this helps

Re: Nursing interviews for University!
Hi
I am new to TSR so hopefully I will post this thread ok. I have an interview at Chester university in 2 weeks and was hoping for any tips if possible. The course I my interview is for is Childrens nursing. Where can I look to really grasp current nursing affairs and how long will the interview last. I have already completed a degree in sports coaching so I have an idea what to expect within the next 3 years (if i am successful) but I wasnt interviewed for this :s.
Any tips/help would be great
Thankyou -

the main question that most uni's ask is "what is the role of a nurse?" this may sound stupid but wat is the role of a nurse?
like i know wat it is obviously or i wouldnt be applying to do nursing, but when i'm sat in the interveiw i wouldnt know wat to say. i know how to say it in my head but when it comes to actually explaining it.. i dont know how to put it..

Re: Nursing interviews for University!
Hi all, new to all this also.
I too have my interview at Hull for Adult Nursing on 3rd Nov - 4 days time - arrggghhh!!
I don't feel confident about it all - to be honest although it is what I really want to do, I am SO unprepared it's unreal.
What current affairs have you read up on? Proposed cuts to Health Care? Double Summertime? Struggling after that.........
I'm also worried that I'm gonna feel really old as I am 34, married with kids. Is there always a good mix of ages at these things?
Thanks

Re: Nursing interviews for University!
Had interview yesterday and I found it awful
- a couple of bad questions were:
- Tell me about a time when someone helped you to achieve an aim and how they helped you to achieve it?
- Describe a time when you took the right path instead of the easy path
I found both of these really difficult to answer on the spot but hopefully well enough.
How did you find it? Did you have the same questions?
Will let you know when I get an answer either way x -
Re: Nursing interviews for University!
Heyyy everyone. Has anyone had any group interviews at all? If so, I was just wondering what they consist of as I've only ever had one-to-one interviews and don't know if I'll be able to express myself as much as I'll want to in a group one! Will they ask the normal "why do you want to be a nurse?" questions or will it be more like group activities and challenges? I don't really understand how it'll work and any help at all would be amazing!! Good luck to everyone for your interviews, hope they all go really well
xx
Pm me and let me know how you do.
