Need A LOT of Help

I am thinking about a degree in medicine. I am doing Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Economics for AS.
My whole family wants me to become a doctor and I have a slight passion for it, however a degree in Finance and going down the business route is equally as attractive to me.
I was wondering: What is the starting wage for a banker vs. a doctor?
How does Job security compare? Do job satisfaction levels differentiate?
I understand these questions may be difficult to answer but ANY help would be largely appreciated.
Thank you.

I think starting salaries will be roughly the same in most cases , but for finance they will vary greatly upon where you work and job security will also vary pending on the firm you work with but both jobs offer security but for doctors definitely more so.

How much experience do you have in medicine? it sounds to me like not very much but i might be wrong.

If i'm right then you really need to get some, and i don't just mean shadowing a GP for a day because as cushy as that is that will not give you much insight. You need to get onto the wards, shadow a junior and see what it's really like. Trust me it's a million miles away from life as any kind of banker.

Starting wages for a doctor are very clearly displayed on http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore-by-career/doctors/pay-for-doctors/

Most posts are 1B banded (40%) so for FY1 it's a little over 31k. There aren't many jobs with a starting salary like that. But..... You have to love the job, there is no halfway. Life as a medic can be all consuming, my Mrs tells me I was talking about IV co-amoxiclav in my sleep a few days ago! You can't be a doctor for the money.

I LOVE my job though, job satisfaction wise 100%. I can't see myself doing anything else.

Firstly, thanks a lot for replying. I have so far done 2 weeks work experience and I have lots more planned for the summer. That website you provided was really helpful thanks and gives me a clearer understanding of starting salaries
So would you say that the starting salary for a doctor is generally more than that of most jobs then?
I do have a passion for medicine but I also am aware of the heavy workload not only in uni, but once you have (finally!) qualified which may be when you are 30 if you specialise right?
I'm glad that job satisfaction is very good  In terms of job security, it is rare that you will lose your job once you have a profession as a doctor right?

Definitely more money in finance, unless you want to spend the majority of your working career specialising as a surgeon or something, plus finance is also easier to get into at uni, only thing maybe is that as a doctor you stand a higher chance of getting a job quicker, then as a accounting graduate for example
Job security is pretty good to my knowledge.

In terms of actually applying, I can't stress enough that you must get experience and reflect on it. This means thinking about what you learnt, what you saw and what this might mean for you. Not only that, but you have to keep asking yourself if this is what you want to do. Being a doctor, and training to be a doctor, can often put even the most dedicated people in a position of wondering what they're doing at med school. There are a few people that have said, or that you can tell that, their parents made them do Medicine. They then struggled at med school and a few have dropped out. You have to be motivated, and don't allow your parents decide what you're going to do. At the end of the day, it's going to be your job and not theirs. You have to enjoy it!

My advice would be to do experience in both fields and decide which one appeals to you the most. No one can decide on anything better than you.
