I am in a similar situation. I will start LCC this September and I am planning to stay in halls for the first year until I settle down in London. I was also looking for cheaper alternatives but I still want to spend at least one year in halls because of better socialising opportunities (making friends, etc).

Yes, it's extremely expensive, but there are some easy solutions. Get a part-time job and you'll be safe.

I am still in college, not in London, but I live on my own. There are no grants and no loans to help financialy, there's just bursary £10pw. I pay my rent, I pay for my food, I pay for my clothes and everything else. And this is just because I got a part-time job (23 hours per week).

What I'm trying to say is that if you go to uni you get grants and loans which can fully cover your rent. That means you only need to think about other living costs, which is more than easy to cover! If you work at least 16 hours per week for a national minimum wage you will not only manage to survive but you will be able to live really well. London is a massive city, so getting a job there shouldn't be that hard.

I found a cheap flat through these guys last year: https://sturents.com/student-accommodation/london/

Private housing is way cheaper than halls.
