Told ya! So are you going to RA? Or do you have other options as well?
I've got SOAS in the UK, Royal Holloway in the UK. And I'm still waiting for UCU and UCM. Maaany options. I've also got UvA as a final back up option so it should be fine.

I am still waiting for an interview with UCU as well as an acceptance. I hope to here the good news soon since it is the only college that I applied too. Thank you everyone - I was sad that they offered me an interview then cancelled, yet, they never sent another e- mail again. But, I will patiently wait to here some good news from UCU soon. Jenn

Rejection from all but UCL! Hahaha. I suppose it's because I switched from Philosophy to Politics (sent all of them alternative Personal Statements) and the fact that my reference specifically states "applying for Philosophy at the University of Cambridge". I'm pretty sure those things put them off. Besides, UCL was the only to be able to interview me. [arrogance] The rest did not get the chance to see my greatness in person. [/arrogance]

As an adm tutor, I would have done the same if I received an application of someone who appears to not be able to make up their mind (my alternative PS actually states that I "would never want to study straight Philosophy", when clearly it was "my passion" in my first PS), without being given an elaborate argument why the applicant has actually done so (that would require an interview).

Anyway, UCL would have been my second choice after Cambridge anyway. Screw Durham/St. Andrews/LSE. Durham and St.A are reputed to have less excellent teaching than UCL, and LSE's undergad teaching is supposed to be horrifyingly poor (as I've been told by my UCU interviewer).

HAH! Good job on UCL though. So you're going to be going to UCL? Do they even do politics there, I was always under the impression that they had 'war studies'. Although that may have been kings', never really looked into their courses.

It's European Social and Political Sciences, and it's PERFECT for me. Four-year course. First year is introductory - Law, Politics, Philosophy, whatever. Second year you specialise (very into depth- I'll probably specialise in Political Philosophy). Throughout the four years you also choose a language which you will study thoroughly (I chose Italian) and in which you will be fluent when finishing your degree. Third year you go to the country of your language (Roma, Italy :biggrin:). Fourth year you write a disseration.

It's supposed to be great, academically. It's not a Politics degree; first year is broader, and further on it's more specialised than a Politics degree.

EDIT: War Studies is King's.

Heh I only applied to it Jan 15th. :p:

I haven't received conditions of the offer yet.. Just an email stating they were going to make me an offer. That's why I'm so glad about getting accepted at UCU - there's still a chance that I won't be able to get the (possibly ridiculous as in 9 average) grades that UCL wants me to.

The first question the UCU interviewer actually asked was "Is UCU your second choice?". I really tried to dodge the bullit there haha, I gave some sort of politically correct answer about not having to choose until having received all the decisions.

Btw, have you heard from UCU yet?

That's exactly what RA asked me. I was like: well technically they're not on my choice list yet since I haven't received a decision. And, I mean, I love Holland you know, and you're the first Dutch university to get back to me. And then he asked: why Middelburg, and I told him I wanted to be adventurous and go to a city I didn't know, and he laughed. Funny stuff. Interviewers are funny people

9 average is ridiculous.. but then, UK universities are ridiculous in their requirements!

And I haven't heard back from UCU, but I've only applied for Spring 2009, so I'm assuming they're still busy with Autumn 2008!

EDIT: Ah I remember why I never applied to that course at UCL, I didn't like the "European" part  nevermind haha.
I am already accepted and I am very happy because I really want to study at UCU so I'm certainly going there. I will join the facebook group..Good luck to everyone else!!!!

CONGRATS! I hate to say it, but I told you so
thank u g-oo-ey..you really did..what did you decide UCU RA or SAOS?
Well UCU haven't accepted me yet, I applied for Spring 2009. I'm trying for SOAS really
The interview sounds a lot more relaxed than the UCM interview I had.

I was asked to give an economic analysis of the Fed Reserves Crisis in the US (I compared it to the Great Depression and the crisis of 1860), my interviewer then argued that the UN is worthless (I decided to compare its role to that of The Congress System and The League of Nations... ...). This was followed by some questions on my opinion of Wilders. The interviewers kept disagreeing with me, it was quite hilarious.

I had a conditional offer 30 minutes after the interview.

Congratulations essygal1990!! Very tricky question and you have given very smart answers...will you accept the offer? and did everyone have conditional offer because they haven't writen anything about my grades but I am still waiting them to send me the papers...

Dear Everyone,

Thank you for your kind support. I received my rejection letter today to enter UCU. I was really sad and it was the college of my dreams. Anyway, I am looking for another college to attend around the Utrecht area since I am moving to Utrecht, anyway. I hope to find another school really soon. Is anyone, aware of a school with open admission in the area? Or, can I re appeal my rejection letter to Utrecht? I hope for some real advice soon. Thanks - Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I'm very sorry about your rejection. :frown: Although I don't think you have a large chance of being reconsidered, you could always email/phone them!

Anyway, Utrecht University is GREAT, and it's in the Utrecht area (doh). You were the one transferring from Harvard right? Then you'll definetely be admitted to Utrecht University (really, they don't have entry requirements except for a finished qualification of some level). I don't know if they have a lot of courses in English though - English courses tend to be things like Economics and Business.

I hope you find a nice place to study soon.
