    And following the poll question:

What do you think might be featured in the construction set to make it appealing to you? Would it have to be decorative? Would it have to emphasise on the techinical aspect of the architecttural piece? et.

The attachment contains the design brief for this 'construction set'. However, this is the initial brief and the points made may be modified based on your views.
I hope that this would help you in helping me!

having read the brief i'm still not sure i really understand what it would be, tbh. can you just explain in a sentence how it would physically manifest itself - would it be a book, or a pre-cut model for assembly, and if a model for assembly, what era of architecture would it represent?

a pre-cut model for assembly - elements from pre-Islamic and post-Islamic architecture integrated together in one model.

It would be sold in places like museums, special exhibitions etc.
The architectural model itself (when assembled) is meant to be a decorative object as well as conducting a message about persian architecture and an information booklet will be included with the set which aims to inform the user about the background of the architectural model.

sorry, i don't think you can badger people into voting for and against this. personally, i think this would be one of the most irrrelevent things in people's lives, so i suspect people aren't voting out of politeness. why do you think architecture students would be interested in this at all - surely you understand that the essence of what we do is to try to come up with NEW ideas, not just rebuild stuff that has directly historically existed? why would we be interested in piecing together some jigsaw of middle eastern architecture? i think there is a big disconnect here about

    WHAT WE DO

    Re: Architectural Construction Set
Well, I acually did expect such a reply...but anyways, just to make it clear, the architectural model is not intended to be a small replica of the existing architecture, but it is intended to be someones interpretation of it, therefore it is going to involve coming up with 'NEW' ideas.

If you think that this is ging to be one of "the most irrelevent things in people's lives" then fair enough and afterall if every other architecture student thinks the same way then I would come to the conclusion that maybe 99.9999% of you will not be interested at all. I just would like to know people's (architecture students mainly) opinions, so, thanks for you contribution jrhartley .

i don't know if you're interested in my view, because i'm not actually an architecture student yet, but i might be one next year if it helps...

i think it could be cool if it has an element of interactivity and play, so that you can design with it, rather than just construct it. a bit like lego, in a way, but with a historical set of bricks.

i could see it working in that context, but still think it would mainly be bought by tourists, amateur history/architecture enthusiasts, or as a gift by well-meaning relatives for their neice/nephew/whatever architecture student. architecture students themselves would probably be less likely to spend money that is in short supply on something like this.

    hope that helps

just out of curiosity, where did you get this brief from - is it a uni project, or what?

Thanks for sharing your views 321beep!
About the brief, it is for a project but not a uni project and it's written by me .

Good luck with becoming an architecture student next year.

hmm.. i kindof think you are aiming for the wrong market. I can possibly see 'normal' members of the public being interested- general history enthusiasts etc. But architecture students spend so long and so much effort in making their own models- i dont think they would be interested in purchasing a 'kit of parts' per se

Hope you understand what i mean

I might actually send a similar poll in a history-related section of the forum and find out what the 'history enthusiasts' think about this.
