Hey, My firm choice is Dietetics at Notts. I won't be living on campus though, plan to get a flat in Nottingham itself, but looking forward to getting involved with lots of things on the campus itself.

I'm considering applying for that this year!
What made you choose this degree? Also how long do the hopper buses take?

Guaranteed job at the end, no student debt because of NHS funding, interest in food and diet. Apparently the hopper bus is every half hour and free. I was planning to car/motorcycle back and forth but it seems like an unnecessary expense due to the free bus. I think it runs pretty late.

To be honest I'm considering this course as I always wanted to go into a science career which wasn't lab based and didn't really have a uniform. Also, after shadowing a community dietician I realised the career isn't that difficult but is pretty easy if you've grasped all the knowledge.

I love food and love it how the course will allow us to stay healthy and allow us to tell the public and our families how to stay healthy.

I'm not into food and diet however, I'm into the science within that topics.

Dieticians just change the patients menu for their specific requirements.

I'm confused about how do dieticians specalise ?

Uh, maybe do some research into the role, and what a dietitian does. Maybe a degree in Nutrition and Food science would suit you better.

No I don't think so. I'm considering either that or biomed

Dietitians do a hell of a lot more than just change menus lol. I shadowed a specialist dietian who's patients ranged from people recovering from bariatric weight loss surgery, to patients in vegetative states (and comas) with a huge list of very specific dietary needs. One patient who could not communicate or respond to visual/auditory stimulus needed laxatives in her feed -- the dietitian was responsible for figuring out what needed to be put into the tubes keeping her alive. Although that's a veryy particular part of dietetics, it shows there's a lot more to it than what a community dietitan does  maybe you might find paediatric or oncology dietetics interesting too

 thanks for the comment! Ooo seems interesting. Ganna shadow a hospital dietician in a few weeks time. I've shadowed a community one it seems good but I wished it was more than telling them what to eat. Maybe the hospital one will be more interesting.

Do hospital dietician have a uniform?

If you're working for the NHS you will be wearing the uniform, but if you choose to work privately then you're your own boss -- no need for uniform if you don't want it

Yeah I find the work of a clinical dietitian way more interesting that what community dietitians do! Not all of it's that extreme but it's a bit more exciting than telling people to eat a more balanced diet. But some people just prefer to not work in a hospital - I'm sure you'll have a better idea of what you want when you shadow the dietitian soon  hope you have a good experience!

Thanks  the thing that's pulling me back is the lack of jobs in the east Midlands

You're pretty much guaranteed a career at the end of it (98% employment straight after the course) if you're fine with working in the NHS that is  I agree though for private work you'd have better luck in London I reckon lol

What careers does a degree in MNUTR in Nutrition and Dietetic lead to other than becoming a dietician?

There are LOTS of options such as sports nutrition, public health, research etc. I would say though that if you have little interest in being a dietitian then it's probably not the right degree for you. Perhaps look at other food related pathways such as food science or pure nutrition. It's a degree very much aimed at producing dietitians, initially for the NHS.
