I am wondering if anyone else has received an offer from LSBU and possibly starting in September? I could only find a 2013 thread hence starting this new thread!

I am hoping too, just waiting to hear back...can you tell me more about the interview, specifically the maths test!

Congrats on your place!

The Maths test was not bad, if you've been doing the QTS skills test revision it'd be ok. There were two maths papers adding to 40 mins in total, I would advise not to dwell too long on the non-calculator one, clearly show your working (get marks even if the final answer is wrong) and make sure you know you mean, mode, median, %, fractions, decimal place, etc. The tutors were really nice and friendly (the candidates too), but the X-Factor moment, where everyone sat in a big room waiting to see whether they made it through to the second stage, was really daunting.

All the best.

HI, sorry to bother you again.

Could you please tell me something about the English test. I know it's on an unseen article and to include educational issues on equality and inclusion. I wondered if you could possibly tell me anything more. Thanks.

Hey I got accepted to LSBU. The interview process is quite full on with maths and English tests before you even find out if you progress to the lesson stage. Try not to worry or let nerves get the better of you, everyone is so friendly and very encouraging.

The English test is an unseen article on an educational topic, mine was on school inspections but every group seems to get a new article. There isn't a whole lot you can revise to prepare for this, I suggest that you read some current educational issues but definitely try and concentrate on writing correctly concentrating on your spelling and punctuation and making sure you don't make mistakes there. I would definitely say it is a case of how you write more so than what you write as I honestly didn't know what was really going on in the English article and thought I would fail due to it but thankfully that didn't happen.

The maths test is pretty ok, especially if you have done/will be doing your QTS skills tests. My advice is to show exactly what you have done so that if you make a mistake they know where you have went wrong. Also look up averages, mean, median, mode and range as I got a lot asked about this.

The 5 minute lesson goes so quick, they don't let you go a minute over it so try to stick to the time scale. Also try and make it interactive and interact with the class, giving praise where necessary. Before my interview i was told there was a group discussion, I don't know if that is the case for other interview groups but on my interview day, if you got through the lesson stage then there was a one-to-one interview. This seemed really daunting as I hadn't expected that but it ended up being like a chat basically talking about why you wanted to be a teacher, experience you had and the opportunity to ask any questions I had which was also really helpful.

Sorry this post is quite long but the more info the better when preparing for an interview.
Good luck

Thank you Anna this helps a lot! And congrats on your place! xx
Hi Anna congrad on you place - I've accepted mine! Tbh wouldn't have the stamina to do another interview.

Re: the test, I also think that it's important to plan ahead for the English task. I gave myself about 10mins to read the article + making notes, 5 mins to do a plan at the back of the booklet before attempting to write! I also prepared a few examples of good and bad practice from my school experience before the day so I was able to use them in the essay.

Good luck!
