KCL or IoE for a PGCE?

Hi guys,

I know this question has probably been asked a million times before but I have a conditional offer of a place on a Biology PGCE in both King's College and the Institute of Education. I'm really struggling with this decision and I would appreciate any information/opinions that could help. I'm struggling because I always wanted to go to Kings but I know IoE ranks higher so I am so confused.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It really doesn't matter where you do your PGCE - all courses are standardised because they HAVE to meet certain standards. Yes the IOE is excellent, but so is kings - so are a lot of providers for a PGCE.

If you've always wanted to go to KCL, then go there

I would definitely choose IOE. I have been told by experienced teachers who work at the Institute of Physics that IOE is the "best". King's is actually very poor in comparison. Their facilities are poor, the building is depressing (their science lab faces a brick wall) and the attitude of staff I met was arrogant and aggressive. Would not go near King's if I were you. Roehampton or St. Mary's are also preferable to King's College.
Well, IoE is specialised, and you'd get the UCL name too.

Places like KCL focus on core subjects like maths and science where there is a lot of demand. Despite their poor offering they manage to get students for this reason. IOE on the other hand offers PGCE in all subjects because they have the resources and professionalism to deliver.
