Indicators used during titration

What is the main differences between phenolphthalein and methyl orange. What are their colour changes and why are those particular indicators commonly used?

Methyl Orange has a pH range of 3.2-4.4 and is red in acid and yellow in more alkaline solutions.

Phenolphthalein (in ethanol) has a pH range of 8.2-10 and is colourless in acidic conditions and red in alkaline

Thanks, why in ethanol though? so how do you know when the alkali has been neutralised for both?
