Best uni for a quirky leftie who wants to make similar friends?

Sorry for the totally lame thread title lol. I just wanted people's opinions about what the best uni is for someone who's on the left politically (I mean to a significant extent - I know students are renowned for more being left wing than society generally) who didn't fit in at school, was viewed as a bit of an alien, and would like to make friends who appreciate their weirdness? I've hung out at Cambridge multiple times because I have a friend who goes there but I've only met one person there who particularly piqued my interest. Sheffield Uni seems better for interesting (to me) people. I definitely don't want to go to Sheffield though.

I've never made any good, lasting friends while I've been in education and I'd really like to change that when I go to uni? I don't have high expectations but if I clicked with even one person, that would be something. So yeah. I've been looking at uni rankings and worrying about whether I'll get into a 'good' uni but I think it's important to consider whether I'll fit in at whatever place I get into, so if any of you are knowledgeable about the types of people who go to different unis I'd like to hear from you.
At each university, there's about 20,000 students. I am sure you will find some like-minded people in that, regardless of university. I think trying to predict the demographic of an university is one of the worst things you can do and I can't even see how that would provide much use.

I'm not sure whether I should go to a uni with loads of students. Then again, I like London (the city) a lot even though it's got loads of people.

SOAS tends to be very left... I mean, I would choose a uni based on its specialisation, not on its student population, but maybe that's just me...

I think the study element is the most important part but I would like people's thoughts on the social scenes at different unis as I'd rather not have a very lonely three or four years. My friend at Cambridge hasn't made friends with ANYONE there, but maybe that's about him and not the people, IDK. A lot of people talk about feeling like they don't fit in at Cambridge though...

SOAS is going to be my first option I think because I want to study Arabic.
Definitely SOAS or UCL.

UCL don't do Arabic. I agree with SOAS, but really, any large urban university is going to have likeminded people.

Lol!
I'm quite similar in terms of being a quirky left, but I actually want to go to a unis that are known to be a bit too wrong wing like Exeter, Durham etc. I mean I know there's an equal distribution but I want to go to these because they're incredible unis for my course choice, and I was worried about going to a uni with too many white rich conservative males but I actually quite like the idea of being politically challenged!

this is a dead thread, my friend. OP's probably made their decision a long time ago...

Just realised that! I had read the 2015 as 2018 for some reason and got a bit excited...

I'm at Uni of York and I have found that the majority of students studying Law seem to be right wing. I think it tends to be because their opinions are actually the opinions of their parents. And being middle class means they prefer conservative politics, since they have to pay less tax etc. I might be way off the mark, but it's definitely how it seems!

Are you quite left wing? I like the idea of York however not too fancy about the idea of being surrounded by a bunch of rich mummies boys :/
