Biology at Bristol

I'm currently deciding between Newcastle and Bristol for biological sciences and am veering towards Bristol, though I like both courses and cities. Both are ABB with Bristol a contextual offer which tells me the course is usually more difficult to get into.
Anyone here got any experience of the course they could share?
Thanks in advance

What would you like to know? I'm currently a first year in biological sciences (technically joint honors, but I do all the core work all the biologists do). Happy to answer any questions you might have

I can say right off the bat though that the course is fantastic and very enjoyable. Especially the practical aspect of the course. Bristol just got some brand new labs so it all looks very fancy

Thanks for the response, relieved to hear its good
How do you find the teaching? I didn't get a chance to see Bristol uni but from what I can tell the lecturers are mostly researchers themselves?
I'm quite interested in the animal side of biology but I didn't want to specialise too early so picked biology instead of something like zoology. Does the core course provide enough of that do you think?
Whats your joint honors in?
Thanks

Yeah, I think we only had one lecturer all year that wasn't in research (he was a curator for Bristol Botanical Gardens) and he only taught us for the last week before xmas. Generally the lecturers are very good, though some are inevitably better than others.

Biology and Zoology courses at Bristol are identical in the first year, so I can speak for both of them. You will have two core units for biology, one is called the diversity of life and is primarily about...well not all technically animals, but lifeforms lets say. You start off the year with microbes and end with mammals (which is what we're currently learning about now). The other unit is more about functional biology, like immunity and viruses. But it's all very interesting and interconnected.

As for me personally, I'm currently a palaeontology student (2/3 bio, 1/3 third geology) but I'm planning to transfer at the end of the year to pure biology as I really dislike geology. I want to go on to study something genetics related when I finish my undergrad.

It's reassuring to hear about the lecturers, and I think the course is what I'm after, while I do prefer the animal side of things I still find the other areas really interesting too.
Ahh I did geology in AS and dropped it, wasn't for me either . Thanks for all your help, I'm 99% set on Bristol now, just a question of firming it. Good luck with your studies!
