What's the Student Union at Edinburgh like? Is nightlife good??

EUSA (the student body) has a large presence at the university, and is based in the grand Teviot Row House building. Here there are a number of bars, serving food, showing sports etc. Its open during the day and is a really casual place to meet friends for lunch, a few games of pool, whatever. Then there is The Dome, housing a cafe, and Potterrow - EUSA's very own nightclub and "The Big Cheese" every Saturday. I wouldn't say the union is particularly cheap, but it offers more than the other universities in Edinburgh. There are around 300 or so societies, so there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people.

Edinburgh is generally more expensive than other cities, such as Glasgow or Aberdeen. Weekends in Edinburgh you are talking £5 at the cheapest for entry to clubs, and drinks £3+. There are, however, plenty of student nights at various places throughout the week, where entry is at best free, and drinks are as cheap as £1. By choosing carefully where you go and when you can definitely minimize costs whilst still going out often. I wouldn't say there's a large selection of clubs, but there is a variety and you are likely to find at least one place that plays a style of music you prefer.
