Coed halls
I'm trying to sign up for accommodation. I'm used the US system of dorms. Are all the halls coed, or are some gender-specific?
If they are all coed, does it really matter in the long run? Are the social mixing practices conducive to study?
If I check that I'd like a roommate and a mixed hall, would the Accommodation Services give me someone of the opposite sex?

All the halls are mixed sex, although some halls have certain corridors or annexes that are single sex. But no, you would never be assigned a roommate of the opposite sex.
University of St Andrews
I would suggest that maybe if you asked to share a room with one of the guys who are not nasty?
