Systematic name for NO2^-?

The oxidation state of N, is +3, so I know it defo has (III) at the end of the name. But why in the mark scheme does it say the systematic name for NO2^- is Nitrate(III), not Nitrite(III)? I don't get it, it has 2 oxygens

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrite - markscheme must be wrong if it does mean no2-
