Fleming left hand rule

Hey

Can someone please explain Fleming left hand rule to me ? ( gcse physics ) I've tried videos and cgp books but I just don't get it !!

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe its that: when you wrap your left hand around something (thumb facing up), the direction your fingers curl is the direction of the current (so clockwise if you're looking down on it). I might have been taught slightly differently to others, but here is the general diagram:
