I thought I should learn all the constellations in the sky to chat up girls but now you're telling me I should learn everything about STIs. Maybe I should keep a little wallet with photos of people that have been contaminated. I'm sure all the girls will fall for that...
    Ummm... I'll stop
Nah, the pictures aren't so cool. If you can gram stain the cultures for me though... :p:

Wtf? I don't think we have to know both types - there was only one Neisseria on our crib sheet from the revision session last week. And I thought your "N. Gonorrhoea is the primary cause of ST pharyngitis" was what you meant

    God I'm stressing now.

I'm only 2nd year, so we don't get options in Path, though I did to the IDHPA course as one of my special options courses. Next year I'm doing Pharm, if I can pass this year :bawling:
duhhh, forgot what year you were an thought u were 3rd year (and hence doing 3rd year path)!

Neisseria pharyngitis is the first one you mentioned, silly!

And - can it get through the epithelial barrier or does it have to be damaged? If the former, my faith in my revision is screwed.

Yes, I am stressed. In 6 days I have my first pathology exam. We're doing well here.
Perhaps getting off of TSR might be a good start, go and work instead. :p:

I am. Unfortunately my computer is on my desk, so it's easy to stop revising for 5 mins to see what's going on here

Re. the prostitutes comment someone made - of course prostitutes use condoms, they don't have a sexual history from every one of their clients
That was me, and the point I was making was that you can get STD's from oral sex, otherwise the prostitutes wouldn't bother with it. It wasn't to tell the girl that she should use a condom in her situation, just to inform the people that were saying you couldn't catch anything from oral sex. I also had a good link that explained what you can catch and how (cuts in the mouth, transmission of fluids etc) but the prostitutes comment was for the people who don't want to have to read pages of science.

Sorry to get all defensive, I hate people thinking I don''t know what I'm talking about.

The legend who teaches to the MBBSs at Kings, Despo Papachristodoulou, summed it up perfectly in a first-year lecture:

"Don't touch that; you don't know where it's been - and length only matters with longevity."

Hi. I'm concerned now. i haven't asked this question to people in real life cos i thought it was a stupid question.

So basically i had oral sex with someone, nothing more. It was me (a guy) going down on her.

is there any risk there? it was about 5 months ago and i haven't noticed anything wrong with me.

sorry if this is a stupid question i'm not great at science.

    cheers

so bad, i knew about oral sex being able to transmit infections, did it anyway, my bf said he had nothing and was tested, suspected he had herpes, but took his word for it. now i think i caught it. just shows that you can't trust anyone really. would have been weird to use a condom if he said he didn't have anything though, like calling him a liar.
