Genuinely, how hard is Further Maths

I took AS Further Maths, including the D1, FP1, and FP2 modules. D1 was a walkover, FP1 was a fun challenge, and FP2 was really ****ing hard. If you have a good teacher and an eager, mathematically-inclined brain, I say go for it - it will stretch your brain in fun ways. If you have neither, I suggest steering well clear.

In terms of the difficulty of the problems, yes. However, the knowledge base required for them is far greater. Also, to be fair, STEP can be learnt just like anything else.

I think you have a slight misconception about the STEP syllabus; STEP III uses practically the entire A-Level syllabus with the exception of Decision modules and a few topics in FP3 (Vectors & Matrices). STEP I & II use the entire A-Level Maths syllabus (C1-4, M1-2, S1-2).
It totally depends on what modules you do.

I found M3 impossible and FP2 extremely difficult at the time and got Ds in both of them.
I imagine I'd do quite well on FP2 now after 2 years of maths at uni, but I'm not so sure about M3.
