Why don't Labour just go into coalition with the Tories?

They probably have just as much in common with the Tories than the SNP, AND it would be for the good of the stability of the country.

This would be the perfect result for most people: a nice bang in the middle of the Tories and Labour in terms of policies.

Many people will stop voting for these parties because they do not trust that they will remain the same

Also, one will always be more powerful even with a coalition so that will cause more problems
:afraid:
There are long running rivers of hate between labour and the conservatives... They will never form a friendship.

Because one would have to play bitch.
British politics is many things, but, sensible is not one of them.
Cos they'd lose so much support and because, despite what the Greens and SNP want you to think, they really do loathe each other.

It's impossible.
Almost all of their policies are conflicting and no new laws could be passed through the commons because all the MPs would vote with their party.

It's not sensible. They have completely different values.

It's a possibility but only if both parties failed to get say 270 seats and therefore could not govern. It would weaken both parties with Ukip and the Greens probably gaining.

Depending on who the next Conservative leader is I could see them backing Labour on certain policies. Trident renewal is a definite. If the SNP try to hold Labour hostage on the budget I could see the Tories coming to the rescue, at a price.

But in short a Grand Coalition is unlikely. There are deep differences in ideology and identity between Labour and the Tories, regardless of all this posturing about them being the same. It would also be electoral suicide. A lot of people vote Labour or Conservative due to their hatred of the other party, and that voter base would evaporate if there was a 'Grand Coalition'.
They wouldn't because it would defeat the sole purpose of their remaining existence.

It would also allow the minor parties mich more ammunition in attacking the Westminster elite which would be mutually destructive for them
