Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...Absolutely. I haven't had many chances to go to Anfield, the last one was many years ago when we played out a very turgid 1-1 draw against, I think, Leicester. And still, with only about 3/4 capacity, the place was rocking. The only other Premiership ground that comes close is St James's and it's all down to the passion of the fans. Mind, being of a slightly different sporting persuasion to most people on this thread, I reckon there is nowhere to touch Twickenham but I agree that the Millenium is awesome.(Original post by Alex Mann)
Yes. Listen to any match at Anfield and the crowd is always singing. They were losing 6-3 in a cup match quarter final to one of their main rivals and still they were singing their hearts out. Compare to Manchester United, who really do need a major event to get them going, a goal or a big substitution. I have never really heard United fans singing much when they're losing or under a lot of pressure. I am sure others will back me up on this. -
Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...You couldn't be more wrong. A mate gave me a ticket to the Arsenal game, a big game by anyone's definition. The crowd was good, but in no way better than the equivalent at Old Trafford. It might come across on tv, microphones in front of the Kop, an atmospheric design like Anfield, but take 30,000 of theirs and 30,000 of ours and put them inside Wembley, you wouldn't notice the difference.(Original post by Alex Mann)

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...
People who think that Anfield is bouncing every single week, regardless of the score of opponent are naive and obviously never go on a regular basis.
I havent missed a home game all season, and Anfield has been dead on the majoirty of the games. This is being solved by the 'Reclaim the Kop' campaign but it cant work wonders. Apart from FA Cup vs Arsenal which is one of the most amazing atmospheres ive ever witnessed, we havent had any really great atmospheres. Even in europe we have been average by our standards.
That said, our away support is bloody superb and outsings OT every year -

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...I think maybe you're being a bit harsh on yourself based upon your own high standards that previous Anfield fans have set. It's not bouncing every week but it still has a decent atmosphere, and from what I've witnessed, much better than Arsenal and Man U, and in a whole different league to Chelsea.(Original post by Jaxson)

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...I did. It's okay, you don't need to keep posting the same thing just because I haven't changed my mind, I was responding to someone else.

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...Do you not remember the infamous chant of Man Utd: "We've got one stand larger than your ground", to which Reading fans responded: "We've got one stand louder than your ground".(Original post by sebas_back)
Do you actually have a clue what you're talking about or are you being deliberately stupid?

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...Reading sang it, therefore it must be true.(Original post by walshie)

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...Been to any top-flight games between two teams that aren't rivals in the last 10 years, and heard the home fans outsing the aways? Didn't think so. Wow, I've seen the light.(Original post by Alex Mann)
Man United thrash Watford, and a Man U fan comes on the radio saying Watford fans outsang them. Just to reinforce my point. -

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...Well we (orient) managed it against teams like Torquay and Rushden & Diamonds last year so I'm sure you can do it against Watford?(Original post by sebas_back)

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...Okay, I did say top-flight btw, but aside from that; you seem to think that just because we have a 76000 stadium we should make more noise than anyone else, or a variation on that theme. The opposite is the case (to a point).(Original post by Alex Mann)

Firstly, bigger stadium means bigger "building", equals worse acoustics in our case. Being a lower league fan I'm sure you know the kind of noise a shed can generate, and it does. Secondly, there comes a point when it's no longer just the real fans inside the stadium. In our case, for the last 10 or so years they have been diluted considerably, and not only that, many have left (Glazers, ticket prices). Of course there are more general points to make about top-flight stadiums as a whole (standing, Sky etc), but in relation to Old Trafford, it makes me laugh when people call us a morgue, when in reality it's fair incredible that we're still one of the best home atmospheres in the Premierships. -

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...You're kidding right? You obviously have no idea about lower league stadiums. Most of them are very open so the noise just floats into the air. Try generating an atmosphere on a terrace with no roof!(Original post by sebas_back)

Fans leaving Man U has nothing to do with it as you still sell the stadium out. I'm not saying you should make more noise because its bigger, but in comparison to other grounds, there is no atmosphere at Man U! Maybe you guys are bored of winning, but if 70,000 Man U fans are getting outsung by 3,000 Watford fans, even when they are losing 4-0, something is wrong. -
Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...So you're saying there are no sheds in the lower league? I've been to a few lower league grounds, and there has been at least one covered stand in all of them. In my experience this is where the noise is generated, and why Anfield comes across as very loud on big occasions. And besides, if you're all in the same boat (ie, open terracing) then the outsinging debate boils back down to the fans. You neglected my point about the TYPE of fan inside Old Trafford. The TYPE of fan who has left was the one who once made the most noise, replaced by, more than likely, his/her antithesis. Re: your talk of a comparison with other grounds, I've only ever made these on a Premiership level, at which it is simply not true to say there is "no atmosphere" relatively speaking.(Original post by Alex Mann)

Re: Best and Worst grounds you have been to/seen...I've just been over the "away fans outsinging the home fans" argument. It happens nearly all the time, regardless of where you are.(Original post by Phoenix)
did i hear the pompey fans out sing the man u fans on saturday?
it was only after Man U scored a goal you could hear them! but most of the time it was all pompey chants!
