Getting teachers to send off References etc etc

hi everyone, just wondered whether there was a strict deadline on when references and such (not the students application forms) need to be sent off as some websites simply say "ASAP"

Generally speaking recs need to be postmarked by the admission deadline. Common courtesy calls for you to have all the information to your teacher at least a month in advance with pre-stamped envelopes and information you want them to include about you in the rec.

My friend said she talked to Columbia, U Penn, etc, and they said that at least where counselor reqs were involved, they were okay if they were slightly after the deadline.

But ask the college if you're going to have any issues. :smile:

They usually want them in around the time the application comes in, but make sure they're not to far off.

Also, make sure you give your recc person AMPLE amount of time to fill in a reccomendation. Asking people to do anything in the time crunch is always a bad idea, especially when they are evaluating you and your character.
